How to Pack a Collapsible Stool in a Backpack

TL;DR: Pack the stool so feet cannot spear nylon, so the package cannot jackknife into your kidney, and so you can get it out without emptying the whole bag for a 10-minute sit. Outside clip is speed. Inside slide is quiet. Quiet is a bounce. Bounce is a bruise if it is long. Long is full-size. Full-size stays in the trunk more often than people admit. Admit, then pack the compact one like a tool, not like a trophy on a daisy chain.

Feet are knives in a sack

Rubber feet still have edges. Edges plus miles plus vibration hole a stuff sack, then a pocket, then a dry bag if you were unlucky. Unlucky is a sandwich with grit. Grit is a foot. Feet go in a dedicated pocket, a wrap, or the sack with the feet in a corner you do not compress against food. Food is a neighbor. Neighbors should be soft. Soft is a fleece. Fleece between feet and food is a spec. Specs can be packing order. Order is feet outboard of fabric you care about, inboard of nothing edible. Edible is a choose. Choose a wrap. Wrap is a sock you do not need. Socks are packing material. Material is not elegant. Elegant is a hole. Holes are a replace-the-sack tax. Taxes are miles. Miles were the note. Note. Pack like miles will try to drill. Drill. Prevent. Then the rest of the pack can be pretty. Pretty is optional. Optional is after the feet. Feet first. Always. First is the fold article’s bag step. Step continues here: where the bag lives. Lives is a pocket or a clip. Clip next. Next is bounce.

Clip versus slide

Carabiners on a tall stool are a pendulum. Pendulums hit hips. Hips bruise. Bruises are a full-size tax on a hike that should have been a trunk. Trunks do not bruise. If you still clip, shorten the leash, pad the contact, or accept the bruise as data that you should have slid. Slide is a side pocket with a measured length. Measure was the choose article. If it fits, slide is quieter and safer. Safer is not swinging into a stove when you take the pack off. Stoves plus swinging metal is a circus. Circus is the perch article’s cousin. Cousin. Unclip before you cook. Cook is a sequence: pack down, stool out, tug, sit. Sequence. If the stool is buried under a bear can, you will not sit. Not sitting is a pack fail. Fail is a 10-minute rest you skipped because of archaeology. Archaeology is emptying the bag. Emptying is a tax. Taxes should be low for a sit. Sits should be the outer layer. Outer is clip or side pocket. Core is sleep. Sleep is not a stool. Stool is a tool. Tools live where hands reach. Hands. Reach. That is the spec. Spec is not a pretty interior cube. Cubes are for clothes. Clothes are not a 10-minute sit. Sits are a zipper you can do with gloves. Gloves are a season. Seasons are a choose. Choose a zipper you can feel. Feel. Then you will use it. Use is the only pack test. Tests are a day hike. Day hikes tell you the pendulum. Pendulums at mile 2 are a gift. Gifts are “clip was a mistake.” Mistakes are slides next time. Next time is this article working. Working is data. Data is a hip. Hip. Listen.

Compression and kinks

Do not strap the folded stool so hard the tubes banana. Bananas are kinks. Kinks are the fold article’s villain in a new costume. Costume is a compression strap. Straps are for sleeping bags. Bags forgive. Aluminum does not. Does not is a limit. Limit is snug, not hero. Hero straps are a photo. Photos are a packed-to-death aesthetic. Aesthetic is a bent sleeve. Sleeves were year two. Year two starts at the strap. Strap gently. Gently is a spec. Spec is you can still unfold without a fight. Fights are kinks. Kinks. Don’t. If the only way it fits is a banana, it does not fit. Does not is a different stool or a trunk. Trunk. Again. Always an option. Options are the compact vs full article. This one is: if it fits without a banana, pack it like a tool with feet managed and access easy, on a stool short enough that ‘fits’ is true, because true is a tape, because tape is the pack, because the pack is the hike, because the hike is the note, because the note is miles, because miles drill feet through sacks, because sacks need a wrap, because wraps are a sock, because socks are enough, because enough is a sit at mile 6 that did not require emptying the bear can, because bear cans are the core, because cores are sleep, because sleep is not a stool, because the stool is outer, because outer is the whole packing religion, which is reach, wrap, no banana, no pendulum if you can slide, unclip before fire, tug before sit, which you already knew, which still applies in the pack, which is just a house for the same sequence, which is ground, lock, middle, empty, reverse, which now has a zip, which is this page, which is a pocket, which you measured, which you will, before the next trip, which is the test, which is a hip or a hole, which you will not get, if you wrap, which you will.
